David Jones lets you return or exchange most items within 30 days of the purchase date if you change your mind. You need proof of purchase, and the item has to be unworn and unused with its tags attached. Reduced to clear items can't be returned for change of mind. Faulty items are a separate matter: they're covered by the consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law, and the 30-day limit doesn't apply to them.
To return something for change of mind within 30 days, David Jones says it needs to be:

Some luxury brands have their own rules. David Jones publishes a table showing which brands offer a refund, an exchange or neither, and sale items from those brands can't be refunded. Some boutique brands bought in store also have to go back to particular stores.
Not for change of mind. David Jones asks for proof of purchase with every return, refund, exchange or repair. It accepts any of these:
If the item is faulty, you still need to show you bought it. Under consumer law that doesn't have to be the receipt itself. A card statement showing the purchase can be enough.
You can take an online order to any David Jones store with your proof of purchase. That's also the only way to swap it for something else, because David Jones doesn't do exchanges on posted returns.
To post it back, fill in the return slip that came with your order and send the item with your proof of purchase to the David Jones Fulfilment Centre, Dock 8, corner of Derby and Stubbs Streets, Silverwater NSW 2128. The returns page doesn't say who pays the postage, and it suggests buying postage insurance for high-value items. Fragrance and other flammable items can't go by post, so take those to a store.
Once your parcel is processed, David Jones emails you and the refund arrives within 7 business days. Items bought in Australia have to be returned in Australia.
Refunds go back to the original payment method, with a few exceptions:
David Jones' own policy says its products come with consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law. If there's a major failure, you can choose a refund or a replacement, or keep the item and ask for compensation for the drop in value. For a minor failure, the store can choose to repair it. David Jones may send an item to the manufacturer or its agent to assess the fault first.

For the 2024 Christmas season, David Jones let customers return November and December purchases until 31 January 2025. As of 23 October 2026, its returns page doesn't publish an extension for this Christmas, so the standard 30 days applies unless that changes. If you're buying gifts early, ask for a gift receipt and keep the purchase date in mind.

Fragrance isn't on the change of mind exclusions list, but any sealed packaging has to be intact. Fragrance can't be returned by post, so it has to go back in store.
