JB Hi-Fi gives a full refund for change of mind within 30 days if the product is unused, unopened and its packaging is in good condition. CDs, DVDs and console games get 90 days, but PC games and computer software can't be refunded for change of mind, and headphones and some wearables have to be completely unopened. For online orders, JB may accept an opened but unused product at its discretion, minus a 20% restocking fee.
JB Hi-Fi's refunds and warranties guide sets out three change of mind rules:
Commercial sales are excluded from the 30-day refund. Goods have to come back in a condition JB considers resaleable, with all their accessories, such as power cords and batteries, and any bonus offer that came with them.
JB doesn't publish separate change of mind rules for phones, computers, gift cards or clearance stock, so the general rules above are what apply.
For online orders, sometimes, but there's a fee. JB's online terms of sale say that if goods are unused but have been unpacked, JB may accept them back at its absolute discretion. If it does, it charges a restocking fee of 20% of the original price and doesn't refund the delivery charge.
That rule is in the terms of sale for online orders. JB doesn't say whether stores apply the same discretion to in-store purchases, so ask before you open anything you might want to return.
If the product is faulty, none of this applies. A faulty item isn't a change of mind return, so there's no restocking fee.
Not for a refund. JB says you need a receipt to prove you bought the item there. If you've lost it, the store you bought from can give you a copy, and online tax invoices can be downloaded from your JB Hi-Fi account.
For change of mind, take it to your nearest JB Hi-Fi store or the store you collected it from. Delivery charges aren't refunded, and if the item is too big to bring in, you pay for JB to pick it up.
JB aims to start a refund to your original payment method within 2 business days. If you paid with a JB gift card, the refund goes onto a new e-gift card, which can take 1 to 3 business days.
Marketplace products, sold by other sellers on the JB website, follow their own rules. Sellers accept change of mind returns within 30 days, and you pay the postage back to them.
JB says its goods come with guarantees that can't be excluded under Australian Consumer Law. You can take a faulty item back to a store with your receipt, or ask JB to arrange a free return courier. JB may have the manufacturer assess the product, and for big and bulky items it will try to organise an in-home repair. You can go to the manufacturer if you'd rather, but you don't have to. JB's own code of conduct says staff shouldn't tell you the manufacturer is solely responsible for the fault.
JB also publishes a minimum voluntary warranty policy, setting how long it will offer a refund or exchange, and then a repair or replacement, depending on the price of the product. Those are minimums. Your consumer guarantee rights can last longer.
Extra Care is JB's paid extended warranty. You can cancel it within 15 days of getting your product. It doesn't cover accidental damage, and it isn't available on Marketplace products.
Refurbished stock, which includes ex-display models and items with cosmetic marks, comes with the standard manufacturer's warranty on top of your consumer guarantee rights.
JB Hi-Fi hasn't published a Christmas returns extension for 2026, and we couldn't find one for earlier years either. The 30-day window runs from the purchase date, so for gifts, keep them sealed and keep the receipt.
JB Hi-Fi gives a full refund within 30 days if the product is unused, unopened and the packaging is in good condition. CDs, DVDs and games get 90 days, but PC games and computer software can't be refunded for change of mind.
For online orders, if JB agrees to take back an unused product that has been unpacked, it charges a restocking fee of 20% of the original price and doesn't refund delivery. Unopened change of mind returns within 30 days get a full refund.
Not for change of mind. Headphones and some wearables have to be completely unopened and unused for a refund. If they're faulty, consumer law applies instead.
Not for a refund. JB needs a receipt, but the store you bought from can reprint it, and online tax invoices are in your JB Hi-Fi account.
JB handles faulty products itself, though it may ask the manufacturer to assess them. You can choose to contact the manufacturer, but you don't have to.
