Kmart gives you 60 days from purchase to return an item for change of mind, or 365 days if you're a OnePass member. You need proof of purchase, and the item has to be unused, unassembled and in its original packaging, with clothes unworn and still ticketed. After day 60, OnePass returns get an exchange voucher rather than a refund, and Christmas and other event products can't go back after 60 days at all.
To return something within 60 days because you've changed your mind, Kmart says it needs to be:
Clearance items can go back if they meet those conditions. Kmart won't refund the difference if something you bought later drops in price. On online orders, the delivery fee isn't refunded, and white goods and big and bulky products come with a collection fee if you return them for change of mind.
These can't be returned for change of mind:
Not for change of mind. Kmart needs adequate proof of purchase, which can be any of these:
Bank statements, transaction histories and payment confirmations don't count, and you may be asked to show the card you paid with. If you scan OnePass or Flybuys at the checkout and they're linked in the Kmart app, the app saves a digital receipt for you.
Faulty items are treated differently. Kmart accepts returns of faulty Kmart-brand products, such as Anko, without proof of purchase, and gives you an exchange voucher.
If you have OnePass, either paid or on a free trial, you can return items for change of mind for up to 365 days. Show your live membership in the OnePass app when you return. The extra time comes with limits:
Our OnePass returns guide compares how this works at Kmart, Target, Officeworks and Priceline.
Take it to any Kmart store. If the order was fulfilled by Kmart, it can't be returned by post. Online orders can be refunded but not exchanged, and the refund goes back to your original payment method. Kmart says card refunds can take up to five business days to show up. If you paid with a gift card, you get a new Kmart gift card, which can take up to 10 business days for online orders.
Items from Marketplace sellers on kmart.com.au have a 30-day change of mind window, can't be returned to Kmart stores, and you pay the return postage. Start those returns through Kmart's online chat.
Kmart now sells a range of Target products on kmart.com.au, and Target publishes the same policy on both sites: 60 days for change of mind, or 365 days for OnePass members, with the same conditions and exclusions as Kmart. The difference is where they go back.
Target products bought on kmart.com.au can't be returned at a Kmart store. Take them to any Target store, or post them back with the free label from Target's online returns form and drop the parcel at Australia Post. Larger items go through Target's live chat or customer support instead. Shipping isn't refunded on change of mind returns. OnePass returns after day 60 get a Target Returns Card.
Target also has a Kids' Quality Promise. If Target-brand kids' clothing up to size 16 wears out within 365 days, Target refunds or replaces it in a Target store, not at Kmart. Socks, underwear, swimwear, footwear and accessories aren't covered.
Kmart's consumer guarantee policy says its goods come with guarantees that can't be excluded under Australian Consumer Law. For a major failure you can choose a refund or a replacement. For a minor failure Kmart can choose to repair the item, and it may use refurbished goods or parts. White goods come with an in-home repair service for faults during the 2-year warranty period.
You don't need the original packaging for a faulty return, and the 60-day window and change of mind exclusions don't apply. Our guide to faulty vs change of mind returns explains why.
Kmart doesn't publish a Christmas returns extension. The normal 60 days runs from the purchase date, so a gift bought on 1 December can go back until the end of January. OnePass doesn't help much with Christmas stock: event products, including Christmas items, are excluded from the 365-day window after day 60.
Kmart accepts change of mind returns within 60 days of purchase, or 365 days for OnePass members, if the item is unused, in its original packaging and comes with proof of purchase. Some categories, such as underwear, pierced jewellery and gift cards, can't be returned for change of mind.
Not for change of mind. Kmart accepts a receipt, a digital receipt, a photo of the receipt with its barcode, an online invoice or an itemised OnePass statement, but not a bank statement. Faulty Kmart-brand items can be returned without a receipt for an exchange voucher.
No. OnePass members can return items between day 61 and day 365, but they get a Kmart exchange voucher, not a refund. Christmas and other event products can't be returned after day 60.
Not if the order was fulfilled by Kmart. Those items have to go back to a Kmart store. Target and Marketplace items bought on kmart.com.au are returned by post or, for Target items, at a Target store.
No. Target products bought on kmart.com.au can't be returned at Kmart stores. Return them to a Target store or by post using Target's online returns form.
Kmart says refunds to EFTPOS or other electronic payment methods can take up to five business days to appear in your account.
